Black-browed Albatross
Description:
The prominent black eye and slight dark triangle around it give this sea bird its name. Adults have an average wingspan of 210 - 250 cm (7 - 8 feet). We were lucky enough to find a spot upwind of a colony which was perched on the side of a cliff. Because of this position, the birds were constantly flying right at us as they landed, took off, or soared past the rest of the colony. Sometimes the birds would glide over us at no more than 3 - 4 feet above our heads. It's a beautiful bird to watch in flight.
